Fellow Fishermen & Fisherwomen,
Although we don't normally fish as much on a Holiday Weekend, we had both Boats out Saturday & Monday AM. With the low water level, most of the Local Homeowners can't get their Boats out of thier Boat Houses, and this coupled with the threat of Showers had the lake Traffic down to a minimum. I believe there were fewer Boats on the Lake yesterday than on a normal Weekend. Sure is nice to have a 45,000 acre Lake almost to yourself on a Holiday Weekend! :)

The long awaited Cool Front that signals Fall is officially here took it's time this year! The Long Hot Summer held on till almost October 1st, and it really slowed the Fishing in September. The normal Patterns that the White Bass and Hybrid Stripers have in the Fall are still not established as of this writing on September 29th. But, it won't take long for the BIG Fish to get on the FALL FEEDING FRENZY and then we're in for FUN!!!!

The Whites & Hybrids will start to School Up in the Main Lake area between the 309 Flats and Ferguson Point in October. They'll often be in very deep water (50' Plus) and chasing very large Schools of Shad. Gulls will begin to show up again on the Lake and help Fishermen locate the Fish. A variety of baits can be used, but the most successful Fishermen will stick with a Chartruse or Silver Slab. Just drop it to the bottom and rip it back up through the feeding fish. You'll most often have really large White Bass in with the Hybrids, but hold on as it's just not uncommon to hook into a double digit size Hybrid! This Pattern will hold well into November, and then we'll find the fish stacked up on the Main Lake Humps, Roadbeds and Points. The next three months are absolutely my favorite of the entire year as the fish become more predictable and easier to catch! Plus, there's usually no more than a handful of boats on the Lake making it seem like you have your own private 45,000 acre Pond!

The Crappie went on a late Summer bite and Adam has had several very successful Trips with his Crappie Customers. Small minnows dunked around the Standing Timber in 25' water has produced some good fish. The Fall will find the fish in the Hickey Island area, around the Bridge Pilings, and in the Timber on the Richland Arm above Midway Landing.

If you've not experienced the Fall Fishing on Richland Chambers, you've missed the BEST RC has to offer! If you need a current Report, or want to take the Family or Friends on the Fishing Trip of a Lifetime, give us a call at 903-389-4117. Have A Great Day!!!

Fellow Fishermen & Fisherwomen:

It's been a good start to the Summer Season on RC! The Big Holiday Weekend is behind us and there's still little Boat Traffic on a Weekday to disturb the Topwater Schooling Activity! Most mornings we have an hour or so of some Topwater Activity and then we find the normally larger fish in deeper water on Slabs.

Richland Chambers Guide Royce SimmonsToday was our BEST Summer Day so far with an really unusual twist. We expect to get our Limits or near them most days on White Bass, but the Hybrid Striper action is not usually as good as it will be in September & the Fall. Today, Adam and I both had a Dad and small Kids on the Lake! Adam located some fish off a Point near the Marina and we both fished the area for over an hour picking up some nice Whites and .....10 Keeper Hybrid Stripers up to 6 lbs. We also had a number of Hybrids in the 15"-18" size range. When the action slowed, we moved to another location and had similar results. We ended the day with both Boats catching near Limits on Quality size Whites and over 40 Hybrids! What a Morning!

The action is good and the Summer is just beginning! We've got at least one of our Boats available much of July & August. As a reminder, we fish everyday except Sunday. The only few days we have both boats already booked in July are the 15, 16, 18, & 23. if you'd like to get the Family, a Business Associate or just get away for a FUN day on the Lake, give us a call. We can make all the arrangements if you need a Cabin at the Marina.

Give us a call at 903-389-4117 and Let's Go Fishin'! Thanks! Royce & Adam Simmons www.gonefishin.biz

PS: Some of you continue to ask about the Slabs we use. They're available through Ron Ratley at RSR Lures. His website is www.rsrlures.com

Bass Fishing Reports
The Fishing Report for July will be almost a carbon copy of the one for August, so here's what will be happening for the remainder of the Summer on Richland Chambers. The White Bass Topwater action will peak in the Summer, and you can find them every AM and PM in pretty much the same locations. The Hwy 309 Flats area is always good for surface schooling fish. From the Spillway down to the Old Hwy 309 Boat Ramp is a good area to cruise with the binoculars in hand. If you spot a few Egrets or a Heron on the Levy, check out the area as the Birds are there for a reason. Windsock Point is very predictable for a late PM Schooling Frenzy. Tie on a Clear Tiny Torpedo or a small Blue/Chrome Rattletrap, and you're almost guaranteed to catch fish when they are on Top!

We're catching more and more Hybrid Stripers this year as the TPWD Stocking Program is paying off. Many times, the larger fish break us off, but the small Hybrids are great fun and a challenge to land. Be sure and catch and release these smaller fish as they have to be larger than 18" to keep. I try and get my Customers to release ALL the Hybrids we catch so we can catch them again. They're not near as plentiful (or good to eat) as the numerous White Bass!

Crappie will be on the Bridges and manmade Brushpiles in the Summer. Small Jigs and minnows in the early AM and late PM should catch you some of these good tasting fish. A popular outing on many Lakes(but not as much seen on RC) is Night Fishing. The night time is much more comfortable, and the bite is usually better. Be careful and get set up before dark, and avoid moving around too much unless you really know the Lake.

Many fishermen use the Summer to run Jug Lines in anticipation of catching some of the Big Blue catfish RC has to offer. The bait of choice is normally Perch, and most folks fish the 309 Flats area.

We've expanded our offering recently by conducting some Bream Fishing Trips on Lake Fairfield. There are some of the largest Bream you'll find anywhere and Adam and his Customers have been catching them on Crickets the past few months.

Summer is AWESOME for Kids and an outing on RC! The Fish are cooperative, and the weather pattern is much more predictable than the Spring Turmoil we've been through. Check out my "Package Special of a Fishing Trip for Two, Overnight at a Cabin at Fisherman's Point Marina, and Lunch at the Lighthouse Cafe for $269!

Give us a call at 903-389-4117, and Let's Go Fishin'!

New Mexico Fly Fishing Report Summer 2005

Bass Fishing Reports
Friends and Fellow Anglers, Runoff is winding down on most area streams and fishing this summer should be better than the past few drought plagued seasons. The Stonefly Hatch is in progress on the Cimarron and fishing has been excellent on the lower reaches of the river as they haven't been releasing a significant amount of water from the dam. The Cimarroncita has been especially good with # 12 Stimulators. We have been fishing on the Costilla also and it looks like the fish are in good shape there also. We have a new piece of private water on the lower river near Amalia. Ed Adams New Mexico Fly Fishing GuideThe Valle Vidal opens on July 1st and there is plenty of water in the resevoir this year so flows should be decent. The Red and the Embudo are still running high but are clearing and should be great by late June. The Conejos probably won't be fishing till late June as they usually have a more intense, long lasting runoff (Its running 1300cfs on the lower river now). We have access thru Conejos River Anglers to a couple of private leases including the Hamilton Lease on the upper river and a new one down by Broyles Bridge. Culebra Creek is starting to clear and Rita had a good day up there yesterday with a couple of guys from Amarillo.

In August we are having a series of fly fishing camps on the Cimarroncita Ranch that will include expert instruction in all levels of fly fishing, lodging and access to the "Dream Water" on the Cita. Myself, Rita and Doc Thompson will be the instructors/guides. For details visit the Cita's website at cimrroncita.com

Looks like a banner year in the Sangre de Christos
Hope to see you soon Ed & Rita Adams
